【単語】somewhat と somehow
私はどうも似た単語が苦手です。
「意味は違う」のはわかるのですが、「どっちがどの意味だっけ？」「そもそもどんな意味だっけ？」と混乱します・・・（私だけかな？）
そこで、皆様も一度は迷ったと思いますので、somewhatとsomehowの違いについて説明します。
◆somewhat：（副詞）いくらか、多少、ちょっと
具体的には分からない時や、数を控えめに言う時、「不明な数」に注目します。
“a bit”とか”a little”と同じような意味です。
（this is used when you’re not specific about something or by moderate amount. Somewhat focuses on amount – like a little bit）
例文：
1. The sales have improved somewhat since last year.（=a bit, a little）
（ 売上が去年よりいくらか伸びた。）
2. I ate too much ice cream and felt somewhat guilty. （=a bit, a little）
（アイスクリームを食べすぎたので、ちょっと罪を感じた。）
3. I am somewhat tired because of overworking.（=a bit, a little）
（ 残業したので、ちょっと疲れた。）
◆somehow：(副詞) なんとか
「なんとかして」「なんらかの方法で」という「不明な理由」に基づきます
（this is used to mean in some way or in some means. somehow focuses on the the way of means of doing something）
例文：
1. This was the first attempt since I challenged to cook French cuisine. I somehow managed to cook it without his help.
（フランス料理に初挑戦した。なんとか彼の助けなしに作れたよ。）
2. I somehow finished all my tasks without overworking.
（残業もせず、なんとかして今日の仕事を終わらせた。）
3. I hadn’t taken the reality that my heart was broken for a long time, but I finally somewhat got over it.
（失恋した現実を長い間受け入れられなかったけど、やっと何とか立ち直った。）
