世の中は不公平ですよ。でも、不公平・不平等の中にこそ、価値があります！
The world is like a box full of unfairness. It starts from the environment we are born into; we do not control the place and socioeconomic status we are from so it may be an unfair beginning. Parents, school, classmates, workplace, bosses, neighbors – the list goes on and on.
人生はスタートからして不公平の始まりです。どこの国に産まれるか、どんな家庭で育つかも自分では決められませんし。両親、学校、クラスメイト、職場、上司、ご近所・・・言い出したらきりがないですが、不公平だらけですね。
Even skills, which we all develop through the same amount of time and effort devoted to that skill, can still vary greatly among individuals because of opportunities or lack of opportunities at one’s disposal. Some people acquire skills easily while others do not.

In our communities, we may be extremely lucky to have a warm and caring family living just next door. Or on the other hand, we may be desperately unlucky and have unruly children and inattentive parents as neighbors, meaning we can endlessly have to endure the noise and disturbances caused by them.

These inequalities can have a significant impact on our lives. However, these unfortunate occurrences or events are often beyond our control.
不公平なことって、人生に大きく左右しますが、自分の力で変えられないものばかりですね。
Even though we can’t change these unfair circumstances, we will often still struggle with how to manage them in our lives which can be stressful and frustrating – we desire the situation to change and feel out of control. But there is a deeper level underneath our dissatisfaction that we can work on controlling – it is our sense of comparison. We compare ourselves to others and feel envious of those who have better circumstances. We may think, “I wish I had a boss like Mr. A has,” “I wish I was the one who got transferred,” or “Why does my friend get to marry such a wonderful man with a high social status?” We can make the list go on, and we can quickly find ourselves whining over how unfair life is to us.
そして不公平なことに悩んだりストレスを抱えるものですが、その裏には「比較」が潜んでいると思いませんか？「Aさんの職場環境が羨ましい」「異動を命じられたのが私だったらよかったのに！」「友達はあんな素敵な旦那さんと結婚できたのに。私なんて・・・なんて不公平なの！」・・・すべて誰かや何かと比べて、不公平さにブツブツ文句を言ったりしていませんか。
However, unfairness does not always lead to unhappiness. Meaning, unfairness isn’t equal to unhappiness.
でも、「不公平」は「不幸」ではないですよ。不公平＝不幸、ではありません。
Remember to focus on the things which you already have in your life and need to be grateful for. You also may have things that others would consider unfair and they are dying to be in your place.
自分の恵まれているところを思い出してください。きっと他人が「不公平だ！」「羨ましい！」って感じているものを「あなた」も持っているはずです。
Try to find something positive in every situation, even if it seems unfair at first glance. By making this a daily practice, you may discover that there is something valuable to gain from living in an unfair world, and you may realize how much you have to be grateful for in your life.

| ～at one’s disposalの意味～
「〇〇 is at my disposal.」「I have 〇〇at my disposal」などのように使い、「自由に使える」という意味で、主にビジネス英語です。
例えば、 （１）She has a car. （２）She has a car at her disposal. この2つの意味の違いは、 （１）普通に、彼女が車を所有していることを意味するに対し、 （２）家に1台車があって、夫が運転しても彼女（妻）が運転してもよい状態を意味する、といったような微妙なニュアンスの違いがあります。
しかし、日常生活ではあまり使われず、ビジネスで使われるため、社用車、社用携帯のように、一時的に所有できるもの、人を表現するようです。
「I have 〇〇at my disposal」 【直訳】私は自由に使える〇〇を持っている。 例）I have a company phone at my disposal. ※a company phone=社用携帯
（人に対しても使えます） I have some colleagues at my disposal for preparing some documents. ※直接の部下などではないですが、自由に書類作成を頼める同僚がいる、というような場面です。
ところで、なぜdisposalという単語が使われるのでしょうね。 Disposalは名詞で、「処分」「廃棄」という意味で使われます：”garbage disposal”（ゴミ処理機）や”waste disposal”（廃棄物処理）
英会話の先生（イギリス人）に、なぜdisposal＝自由に使えるというニュアンスがあるのか聞いてみました。このイディオムの由来は分かりませんが、職場で一定の期間または一時的に借りたり貸したりして使えるもの（や人）だからとの意見でした。 |
| ～whine【自動詞】について～
オンライン辞書などで”whine”の意味を調べようとすると、「すすり泣く」「泣き言を言う」「駄々をこねる」など、いろんな意味が出てきて、よく分からない・・・という人へのポイントです。
例えば、英辞郎On The Webでは、下記のように whine【自動】 1.すすり泣く、哀れっぽく泣く、哀れな声を出す、むずかって泣く 2.めそめそと愚痴を言う［こぼす］、泣き言を言う、弱音を吐く、訴えるように泣く、ごねる、駄々をこねる 3.〔犬が〕クンクン鳴く 沢山意味がありますので、使い方に迷いませんか？また、「似た意味の単語」として、”complain”, “grumble”とか聞いたことがあるかと思いますが、いまいち違いが分かりませんよね。
英会話の先生（イギリス人）に見解を求めたところ、簡単に理解するためには、3つを意識するといい、ということでした。 類語もあわせて、【complain, whine, grumble, moan】の4つについて述べます。
ポイント（１）基本的には、４ついずれも、愚痴をこぼす、文句を言うという意味で良く、いずれも自動詞です。その中で、通常の基本となる単語がcomplain.
ポイント（２）残りの3つは、「声のトーン、高さ」の違いと思えばよい。
ポイント（３）自動詞なので、「～について愚痴を言う」と目的語を表現したい場合、 “about”と”over”を使って表現できます。。 物事やものにたいしては、aboutもoverもいずれも可ですが、 人に対しては、aboutのみです。
構文： S＋V+about a person/ a thing S＋V＋over a thing
